How it works
River Queen Voyages offers a unique way to explore the Cumberland River while paddling in a kayak. As the first downtown kayak rental and tour company in Nashville, River Queen Voyages provides two main routes for groups to enjoy. The Downtown Beginner route is a 3-mile paddle from Shelby Park to Riverfront Park, taking about two hours in total and offering great photo opportunities of the cityscape. For those seeking a longer experience, there's a Scenic Intermediate option that covers either 5 or 8 miles from near Opryland to Shelby Park, with a distant view of the skyline.
Each trip includes essential gear like kayaks, paddles, and life jackets, as well as an upriver shuttle service. Before setting off, participants receive basic kayaking instructions and a safety demonstration to ensure everyone feels comfortable on the water. For those interested in learning more about the area’s history, certified river guides can be added to provide insights during the journey. Groups need at least four people to book any route, but these can be made up of different parties combining their numbers.

Our Review
Updated
Our editorial view of River Queen Voyages reveals a team building activity that offers a refreshing way to bond while exploring the scenic Cumberland River. With its unique blend of adventure and sightseeing, this kayaking experience is ideal for teams looking to break away from the usual office environment and engage in an outdoor challenge. The Downtown Beginner route is particularly suited for small or new teams seeking a low-pressure introduction to kayaking, while the Scenic Intermediate option caters well to established groups ready for a more extended outing. The inclusion of basic instructions and safety demonstrations ensures that even those new to kayaking can participate with confidence.
One thing to keep in mind is that this activity may not be the best fit for analytical teams who prefer structured problem-solving over physical exertion. Additionally, larger groups might find logistics challenging, as each route requires at least four participants but could necessitate coordination if combining parties. However, the opportunity to add certified river guides can enhance the experience by providing historical insights, making it appealing for creative teams interested in storytelling and local culture. Overall, River Queen Voyages provides a balanced mix of leisure and learning that can foster team cohesion through shared adventure on Nashville's waterways.
