Explore how attention shapes what we notice, interpret, and remember in this science-based interactive workshop led by Dr. Kelly Reidy. Step out of distraction and into discovery. "The Power of Attention: Understanding Focus at Work" is an interactive, science-based workshop designed to help participants understand how attention works and how it shapes what we notice, interpret, and remember in everyday work. Through hands-on demonstrations and guided activities, participants explore the remarkable strengths (and real limits) of human attention, and discover how directing attention more intentionally can change how we approach problems, conversations, and complex information.
This interactive workshop is led by Ph.D. scientist Kelly Reidy. Kelly teaches science communication at Pratt Institute, hosts monthly lectures for AtlasObscura.com, plays harp, leads museum scavenger hunts for Museum Hack, and has worked through Museum Hack as an audience development consultant for museums and organizations around the world. Kelly has over ten years of experience facilitating team building events and workshops at teambuilding.com, having worked with clients such as Google, Etsy, Capital One, Charles Schwab, Western Australian Museums, and the NYC Parks Department. "The Power of Attention: Understanding Focus at Work" workshop is grounded in cognitive science, neuroscience, and psychology research.
Through a blend of discussion, engaging demonstrations, and collaborative activities, participants will explore how attention influences the way we think and work by:
• Discovering how attention shapes what we notice, understand, and remember
• Exploring the surprising effects of multitasking, distraction, and cognitive load
• Observing how shifts in attention influence perception, insight, and problem-solving.
Participants will also experiment with attention in action, including:
• Experiencing how focused attention changes how we perceive information
• Noticing patterns and details that emerge when attention shifts
• Reflecting on how attention influences everyday work and communication
Ideal for teams, professionals, and organizations interested in improving focus, awareness, and thoughtful collaboration, "The Power of Attention: Understanding Focus at Work" is a lively and thought-provoking workshop for groups who want to better understand one of the mind's most powerful tools. Along the way, participants often discover that the same attention skills that sharpen focus can also support curiosity, creative thinking, and fresh approaches to familiar challenges.
