How it works

HERO of Oz: A Mindset & Skills Workshop for Navigating Change is part of teambuilding.com’s POP Series, where Positive Organizational Psychology meets pop culture. The workshop uses story, science, and skill-building to make evidence-based workplace concepts memorable, accessible, and actionable. In this experience, The Wizard of Oz becomes the through-line for understanding what it feels like to be dropped into change: new world, new rules, unexpected challenges, and no obvious path forward.

Just like Dorothy lands in Oz after a tornado, today’s teams are navigating constant change — new tools, shifting priorities, restructuring, AI disruption, and evolving ways of working. Even when change brings opportunity, it also demands mental energy. This workshop helps participants build the mindset and psychological resources needed to adapt, stay motivated, and keep moving toward meaningful goals.

At the center of the workshop is Psychological Capital, or PsyCap — a highly researched set of mental resources linked with workplace satisfaction, performance, wellbeing, and reduced burnout. PsyCap includes four HERO resources: Hope, Efficacy, Resilience, and Optimism. After setting the stage with Growth Mindset and PsyCap, participants go on a gamified HERO journey where they become active players in their own learning: practicing micro-skills, making choices, receiving feedback, and building resources they can use to navigate change individually and with their teams.

This workshop was developed by Tasia Duske, co-owner of teambuilding.com and doctoral candidate in Positive Organizational Psychology, as part of teambuilding.com’s work to translate workplace science into practical, memorable, and engaging team experiences.
